The GCSE course is designed for those pupils who wish to extend and develop their studies in Art and Design. The course has two components – a coursework portfolio and a controlled test.
The coursework element is a portfolio of work kept over the two year period of the GCSE. Areas of study include drawing and painting from direct observation, imaginative and expressive work, design and graphics. There are opportunities for students to develop their work into printing and three dimensional work.
The controlled test takes place at the end of the course. Students have three months in which to prepare for the test and then have 10 hours under examination conditions to complete a final piece.
